African pygmy hedgehogs have nether been wild they were bred for captivity only. They get their name American due to being pets in north America and is a described term by breeders not a true species name.
They are suitable pets for children with adult supervision. Fairly low maintenance pets and once used to human interaction they won’t mind being handled but don’t crave it so will take or leave it. They are available in many different colors including albino to white and brown known as snowflake, greys etc. Male or females are equally good pets. and are not known to cause allergies
To put pygmy hedgehogs for sale is illegal in some countries and states but in the UK they do not require a license.
African pygmy hedgehogs have short prickly spines along their whole back whilst their bellies have soft fur. When scared they will curl up in a ball with their spines poking out. When relaxed the spines will lay flat meaning you can hold and pet your hedgehog just like you would a dog or cat.
sexing african pygmy hedgehogs is easy and can be done from as early as 14days.
